Struggles that the education system is facing
As I begin learning in a secondary urban school, I start to recognize the many struggles our instruction system is confronting. Student behaviour has ever been a serious issue in many typical urban high schools. There are schools where pupils can easy accommodate to their following class degree and schoolroom outlooks, assisting to settle portion of the battle. There are besides schools that remain fighting with the pandemonium. In add-on to the behavior issue, peculiarly in Philadelphia high schools, the course of study besides contributes to the job. Recent educational statute law has redirected the focal point of schooling. Standardization has become a tool to switch the attending to certain topics such as math and English. Whenever there is a deficiency of balance in a school course of study, the academic jobs seem to originate. It is no uncertainty that our kids need reading, authorship, and arithmetic ; nevertheless, when pupils can non do connexions between those three R â⬠Ës and societal factors, the academic jobs persist, particularly in schools with high poorness degrees. But what truly is the job? Our urban instruction system has put aside vocational topics, limited physical instruction by holding bantam gym floor, and shifted all attending and resources to math, reading and composing. School reforms frequently stir contention among instructors and decision makers. When I look back to Dewey ââ¬Ës course of study, I realize that he got a superb thought to construction course of study that might supply the solution to current school system. Dewey ââ¬Ës thoughts influence the work of many ulterior pedagogues, psychologists, and educational theoreticians but remained in the universe of thought instead than the universe of pattern. This paper examines how Dewy struggled to construct the course of study that he believe would harmonise the universe and how he rose to the universe leader in instruction. The features of an ethical democratic leader are besides analyzed.BiographyJohn Dewey was born in Burlington, Vermont, October 20, 1859. Dewey went to public schools and graduated in 1879 from the University of Vermont. Dewey began learning in Oil City, Pennsylvania for a twelvemonth. He moved to Charlotte to learn grade school for another twelvemonth before sing doctrine as a calling. Dewey borrowed five hundred dollars from an aunt to inscribe in Johns Hopkins University where he studied doctrine. Dewey received his doctorate grade under professor Morris who tardily appointed him as an teacher at Michigan. He taught a class in psychological science as an debut to the class in doctrine and shortly became an helper professor. In 1894, Dewey was invited to Chicago as president of the Department of Philosophy, Psychology, and Education. He taught classs in moralss and logics. Dewey is best known for the laboratory school in which he developed and tested his course of study. Due to a struggle with the president of University of C hicago, Dewey left Chicago and moved to Columbia. He became active in many societal and political motions and began to go around the universe. Dewy lectured in Japan, China, and Russia. Since so, Dewey has been extremely regarded as one of the greatest mind, and subscriber to psychological science, doctrine, and educational teaching method.Democratic LeadershipNo leader could lift entirely. The ability to carry and work with people makes great leaders. Dewey was non an exclusion. Dewey was influenced by his survey of Huxley ââ¬Ës book in physiology which emphasized the integrity of the being and the interaction between being and the environment. Dewey had applied the thought good into his life. He was cognizant of the environments that surrounded him and use them as resources to back up his place throughout his life. Dewey was persuasive and he besides frequently set himself near people who can assist him do things go on. His carrying accomplishments were critical for his leading throughout his life since the beginning, following his college graduation. During the twelvemonth instruction in Charlotte, near Burlington, Dewey had the chance to discourse with Professor Torrey about doctrine. The treatment led to his consideration of doctrine as a calling. Dewey was interested in the Journal of Speculative Philosophy, edited by W. T. Harris. He submitted an article for publication. Harris accepted the article and gave it a compliment that encouraged Dewy to compose two more. Dewey finally enrolled in Johns Hopkins University to analyze doctrine under George Morris. At Johns Hopkins, Dewey began his societal networking. He met a group of alumnus pupils, including James Cattel. Meeting and working with Professor Morris was a key in Dewey ââ¬Ës success. When Morris was appointed to the president of doctrine at University of Michigan, Dewey besides became an teacher. After Morris died, Dewy so succeeded as president of the section. The sequence created a vacancy for James Tufts to fall in the module at Michigan. In 1891, Tuft came to the freshly unfastened University of Chicago. Three old ages subsequently, with the suggestion of Tufts, Dewey was invited to Chicago as president of the Department of Philosophy, Psychology, and Education. This event opened the door for Dewey to pursuit his thought in instruction reform. Dewey opened and operated his laboratory school with the support from the university president Harpert, his married woman, and aid from Dr. Young. After surrender from University of Chicago, Dewey wrote to several friends in other school. Cattell, who became professor and president of the Department of Philosophy at Columbia, secured Dewey a place in the section. Here at the Teachers College, Dewey became active in many societal and political motions. He traveled, lectured, and became a universe leader in instruction. Dewey was like a seed planted in good dirt. The conditions to win were the integrity between Dewey and his interaction with the environment. Dewey was clearly cognizant of his place in the different phase throughout his life, and he made good connexions with people who contributed to his success as a universe leader in instruction. Another common feature of an ethical democratic leader is self-confidence. Dewey has the assurance to follow his dream. At any clip in life, altering calling way is a large determination to do that requires a batch of assurance. Dewey did it at least twice. As he decided to pursuit a calling in doctrine, Dewey quitted working as a grade school instructor in Charlotte. He borrowed five hundred dollars from his aunt to inscribe in Johns Hopkins University. When Dewey was invited to University of Chicago as president of the Department of Philosophy, he showed his great assurance. Chicago in the 1890 was about the same as Chicago of today. The city with political corruptnesss was besides the land for municipal and societal reforms. Dewey has the assurance to take the lead in the section, and open his research lab within two old ages. When the struggle between Dewey and president Harper arose in Chicago, Dewy resigned from his place and left without cognizing what to make next. He left th e school, but he did non go forth his dream. He used his assurance to follow his dream and thoughts with small respects to where he worked. He changed waies to follow his ain way. Dewey ââ¬Ës assurance was more graphic when he traveled around the universe. He traveled to different states that have different political systems like Japan, China, Soviet Union, Dewey involved in activities that advocate democracy in Japan and China. Dewey besides became involved in the difference between Stalin and Trotsky. The serious work put Dewey as a leader in educational and political reform. Dewey was ever a difficult worker who worked with passion. Dewey devoted his life to work in the field of doctrine, psychological science, and instruction. He worn multiple chapeaus along his calling line. Dewey was originally a grade school instructor, and so served as professor. He joined the University of Chicago as president of a section. In 1899, Dewey was elected as president of American Psychological Association. Subsequently, he served as president of American Philosophical Association. He had legion publications that covered a broad scope of subjects. Psychology was his first book that appeared in front of James ââ¬Ës Principles of Psychology. When he was a member of the Psychological Review, he published several articles. One of his outstanding part to psychological science was How We Think, in which Dewey formulate five stairss human takes to believe. The best known portion of his part is the work in instruction. His instruction method is dominant in the American instru ction system. During his calling, publications of methods in about all Fieldss of doctrine were apparent that Dewey was an highly difficult worker who made himself seeable and a loud voice in his field. Passion is one of the cardinal features for a successful leader. Dewey ââ¬Ës success in the field of instruction was a consequence of work outing a struggle. Before developing his invention around the struggle, Dewey carefully define the job as a disjunction between an single and society, ââ¬Å" the ultimate job of all instruction is to organize the psychological and the societal factors. â⬠Dewey focused on doing the connexion between the involvements and development of the person and those of the society. Dewey interested in organizing the two factors so that the person ââ¬Ës involvement and psychological science are non dictated by the societal environment. Dewey believed in doing the school a illumination community where the kid lived, participated, and contribute to the societal community while emerging individualism at the same clip. He rejected the impression that the map of instruction was to fix the following coevalss to run expeditiously in the bing societal order. Dewey besides rejected the thought that the present involveme nts of the kid must be subordinated to future wagess whether they were represented by vocational competence or by a bid of the cultural heritage. The two rejections are still valid in today ââ¬Ës society. Our instruction system aims to fix kids for the modern universe, frequently disregard the person ââ¬Ës involvement. As the procedure of globalisation is on the manner and competition is on the rise, the person ââ¬Ës involvements are less important in the finding of a pupil about what to make in the hereafter. Often, a pupil picks their calling based on the handiness of occupations. Although it is less relevant, the impression of a kid ââ¬Ës involvement is dictated by a bid of cultural heritage exists in today society, particularly in Asiatic states where grownups pave the route of the hereafter for their kids. Dewey rejected both and looked for a new procedure of taking the kid from present involvements to an rational bid the modern universe. With that in head, Dewey wa nted to utilize a school as a research lab to plan and prove his invention. Although Dewey has set the intent of his school and an experiment to transport out, he did non get down without confer withing bing thoughts. Dewey started with an analysis on Harris ââ¬Ës humanist theoretical account. Harris ââ¬Ës focal point was to stand for in the class of survey the whole human experience. While Dewey saw that as an importance in the course of study, he found that Harris ââ¬Ës five topics did non represents the whole human experience. He pointed out the job of isolation. Each topic was taught as isolated from the following and there was no existent principal of integrity. In add-on, each of the group of surveies was ready made. Dewey believes that capable taught isolatedly loses its significance, he noted, ââ¬Å" geographics loses much of its significance when separated from history, and history loses a good trade of its content, if you isolate it wholly from geographics. â⬠In this course of study, the kid ââ¬Ës life is an built-in. Children ba se on balls from one subject to another, on topic to the following. They go to school, and assorted surveies divide the universe for them. Each topic is classified while facts are torn off from their beginning and rearranged with mention to some general rules. Each subjects are divided into surveies ; each survey into lesson, each lesson into specific facts and expression. Children are immature, traveling to school to go full-blown and to widen their experience. The job is so, the proviso of logical parts and sequences, and the presentation of each part in a schoolroom. Dewey besides noted that the job is terrible when it comes to topics that are presented in a more or less finished signifier. The chief expostulation of Harris ââ¬Ës place was that the procedure of conveying the kid to the intellectual of western civilisation was done without esteeming the kid ââ¬Ës involvements and how kids see their universe. They are taught from the position of grownups who arranged and pres ented cognition in organized topics. In add-on, the promise of integrity among the topics in the course of study was non fulfilled every bit long as the topics are treated independently from one another. Having been through a century of reform, the subject-isolated course of study still exists in today ââ¬Ës society as a criterion. Subjects of survey are organized cognition in detached books, taught individually by fixed course of study with fixed criterions. In add-on, instructors are besides divided harmonizing to different topics. Teachers are certified to teacher in certain capable countries. Dewey saw the job and turned his dorsum from this attack. Another option was the culture-epoch. Dewey had assorted experiencing about it but still see it as a promise for alteration in the right way. This attack is appealing to Dewey because it attempted to take the kid ââ¬Ës involvements straight into history in building the class of survey. In add-on, a culture-epoch course of study proposed to travel increasingly from the early phases of human development to civilisation by mean of ability to cover efficaciously with the modern universe. Although the culture-epoch is really promising to Dewey, it still reveals some jobs with Dewey ââ¬Ës ideal course of study. One job is the correspondence between the kid and the race that is questionable. Culture-epoch suggested that there is a possibility of a developmental phase in the kid that is non easy to do confirmation whether it exists. Reject 2 things: the human phases, and the agribusiness illustration of the manner it is carried. Bing a voice speak out his thoughts Tact/strategic 6 stairss to work out struggles Handss on the research lab school Indominable spirit struggle with Harper Resilient Move to Columbia and go on to tour universe Position of human self-respect the course of study for kids ( tonss from the kid and course of study ) Idealist/Realist ( ideal school in society )

Global Forces and the European Brewing Industry
Penthouse Heinlein seeks to expose not Just its own brand, but the local brands swell, it may be a daunting task because there is a lack of much innovation, especially that it is family controlled with no allowance for outside and new governance. But the brand itself is strong, so it will maintain and/or grow its position. Grossly It is a medium-sized company that has set a niche with products that are new and innovative, and their packaging is striking and different, but they may find it difficult to maintain this position in the market because of the trial and error expense they have created for themselves. N.B. Has the benefit of being the biggest brewer in most countries and continents, so it can afford to test new markets. But with the competitive environment it dwells in, the expense may go well beyond what they can manage, if they fail to market and run their product, brand cooperation. It will be difficult to achieve that because of its size. Scottish & Newcastle Has invested most of its power in an eventual dying market, Europe. The decreasing beer consumption will negate its resources unless it expands it reach overseas to expose its brands.Luckily it is successful and with the European focus it has well attained, it has stability in its position in the market. There also need for them to diversify, instead of having beer on the market. QUESTION 2 (it) Strengths Strong overseas strategy to use locally acquired companies to introduce Heinlein to new markets. The transfer of expertise and technology to local, companies which help economies of scale for both Heinlein and local beers. It is family controlled to help stability and independence for international growth.Weaknesses Its biggest brands are Heinlein and Master. For a big company, it does not diversify very much. It needs to create more brands to help maximize profits in different areas. It is family controlled, which means there is no allowance for ââ¬Ënew blood' and innovation. Grossly The c ompany is innovative and it has a strong brand, which people rely on, e. G. Its flavored beers and striking green bottles. It has new drinks on the markets and works on new ideas plus, has a trial brewery for testing the market. It Exports many of its drinks which allow more customers.Weaknesses innovation for drinks and cost of production. The new brewery will potentially cost it with failures and trial drinks. Ellen Is a very big company and the merger allowed new ideas and more brands on the market. Wants to transform itself from biggest to best brewer, which means it values consistency and growth. Wants to coordinate all functions internationally. Weaknesses Too many acquisitions mean the cost maintenance is high. The ability to work as one unit for a big company is a difficult task to accomplish.Consistency and synergy may be difficult across continents and countries. Scottish & Newcastle Focusing on Europe as a strategy helps them analyses effectively how to strategies and, he lps unite all acquisitions and run them as one unit. The investments in Baltic Beverages helped them expose their brand to many countries. Closing down inefficient breweries cut down unnecessary costs. Weaknesses Simply focusing on one continent will not expose the products to new markets. Heavily investing in one sector, like the Baltic beverages, has potential consequence for failure cost.

Is Macbeth a hero or villain? Essay
The play ââ¬ËMacbethââ¬â¢ by William Shakespeare is about a fascinating character known as Macbeth. Do we consider him a hero or a villain? There has been much questioning over this. As the story goes on, Macbeth went down many changed turns, some for good, and some for bad. Macbeth goes from a nice hero to a mean villain all in a small period of time. Many actions made Macbeth into a good person at the opening of the play, which gave him titles of bravery, loyalty, and a good reputation. Then several actions made Macbeth appear evil such as committing crimes, being greedy, and having temptation. Macbeth can be seen as either a hero or a villain. At the start of the play, Macbeth was what looked to be a hero. There are numerous great characteristics to show that Macbeth is a hero such as him being loyal, kind, and overall having a good reputation. First, Macbeth had a good reputation. The idea spoken consisted of Macbeth to be a ââ¬Å"valiant cousin, worthy gentlemanâ⬠(Act 1, Scene 2, Line 1) by Duncan, the king. This means King Duncan is admiring Macbeth for his remarkable struggles in the war, by calling him ââ¬Ëvaliant cousinââ¬â¢ which indicates he is in close relationship with King Duncan. Also, by saying he is a worthy gentlemen, Duncan is saying he is an honourable fighter. Second, Macbeth is a very loyal man. ââ¬Å"Till he faced the slave; which neââ¬â¢er shook hands, nor bade him farewell to him, till he unseamed him from the nave to thââ¬â¢ chops, and fixed his head upon our battlements.â⬠(Act 1, Scene 2, Line 9) This quotation explains just how loyal Macbeth was to King Duncan and his coun try. He put his life in danger to fight in the battle against the enemy Macdonwald. This was the last battle he fought after meeting the three witches. Last, Macbeth was a kind guy. For instance, he showed great love for his wife at the start of the play. When Macbeth wrote letters to Macbeth telling her how he was, what his new thoughts were, and explaining how much he loved her, he is being a kind and thoughtful man. From all his heroic titles at the beginning it shows Macbeth achieving the ââ¬Ëunderstanding of a hero as a person noted or admired for their courage or outstanding achievements.ââ¬â¢ (Illustrated Oxford Dictionary, Dorling Kindersley). Macbethââ¬â¢s bravery, loyalty, and kindnessà are absolutely what make Macbeth a heroic character. Macbeth is also a villain in the beginning of the tragedy. A villain is defined to be an evil person who goes by evil approaches to get what he needs. First, Macbeth determines he wants to be King of Scotland. He decided this when th e witches predicted that he would be Thane of Cawdor. If the witches never welcomed him King of Scotland at first, he never would have prediction about killing the king. His action directed him to keep shedding peopleââ¬â¢s blood, and was in blood too deep he couldnââ¬â¢t go back. Later in the play Macbeth says to Lady Macbeth, ââ¬Å"I am in blood / Steppââ¬â¢d in so far, that, should I wade no more, / Returning were as tedious as go oââ¬â¢er.â⬠(Act 3, Scene 4)This statement paints the image of Macbeth bathing in a sea of blood, being so far that it is easier to carry on than to go back. Also, he grew more detached from his wife, Lady Macbeth, and made choices without her recognition. For example, when he started to kill innocent families such as the MacDuff family and didnââ¬â¢t tell Lady Macbeth. So then he became more cruel in his tactics to stay as the King of Scotland and the public define him as ââ¬ËThis tyrantââ¬â¢ (V, iii) and ââ¬ËA dwarfish thiefââ¬â¢ (V, ii), by his evil ways. Lastly, during the play, every time Macbeth attempts to attain his ambition, he constantly blocks his respectable qualities in favour of a more wicked approach. This ambition of his points him to develop a troublemaker later in the play, which leads to his downfall and concluding murder by Macduff. For instance, a major evil action Macbeth did was killing King Duncan just so he could become king and gain power. In the book Macbeth stated: ââ¬Å"I am settled, and bend up Each corporal agent to this terrible feat. Away, and mock the time with fairest show: False face must hide what the false heart doth know.â⬠(Act 1, Scene 7, Line 90, Pg. 61) What Macbeth is stating is that he is ready to kill King Duncan, and after he is done he will have to act upon his ââ¬Ëfalse faceââ¬â¢ and try not to have the guilt sink in from the truth in his heart. These evil ways proved Macbeth to be very cold hearted and a serial killer. There is no doubt that Macbeth was a villain by his greed, despair, and temptation. Last, Macbeth had a choice to be evil or be a hero. First, the witchââ¬â¢s prophecies gave him a choice to make. He could have listened to them or did what he thought was good, but instead he chose evil ways. When Macbeth tries to find the witches in a dark cave, he finds them, and then they show him three ghosts. The first spirit seems as an armed head that says, ââ¬Å"Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! beware Macduff; / Beware the thane of Fife.â⬠The second spirit is a gory kid that tells Macbeth, ââ¬Å"Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn / The power of man, for none born of woman / Shall harm Macbeth.â⬠At last, the third apparition was another child with a crown on his head, telling Macbeth that he ââ¬Å"Shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane Hill / Shall come against him.â⬠(Act 4, Scene 1) This false self-assurance Macbeth was given was very significant so he could make his ultimate decision which ended in defeat. Macbeth had his wifeââ¬â¢s thoughts too. Lady Macbeth convinced him to commit the murder when he questions the consequences to her. For Macbeth to be evil, he went with Lady Macbeth telling him he was too ââ¬Ëun manlyââ¬â¢ to kill Duncan and he should do it to become a man and not be a kid. The direct quotation that was used for Macbethââ¬â¢s wife was ââ¬Å"When you durst do it, then you were a man ââ¬Å"(act 1, scene 7, line 4). Macbeth had a lot of decisions to choose the evil way or the hard way. He could have picked the heroic side which meant him still being thane of Caldor and Glamus, being treated nicely by Kind Duncan, and not feeling guilt by killing innocent people. Macbeth in the end, chose the wicked ways which sooner or later killed off his wife from her extreme guilt. This would not have happened if he had made accurate decisions. Unluckily, this is all triggered by miss treatment, being misled by his loved one, not seeing any enhancements he has made and non-existence love. In conclusion, MacBeth is a complicated character whose human nature means that he retains both good and evil qualities from the start of the play to the finish. He was heroic by being a strong person, a hero to Scotland, a Lord under the instruction of King Duncan, and having no reason to feel hopeless with where he is in life. Macbethââ¬â¢s bravery, sense of right and wrong and his hesitant method of bad behaviour are as well-known as his evil ambition, cunning and cruelty. Macbeth cannot be argued as being purelyà heroic or villainous; the difficulty of his character is proven by his vicious inner struggles and powered by his imaginings. Itââ¬â¢s very tough to specify if Macbeth is evil or a hero, so from the thoughts everywhere what would you reflect? Works Cited: Shakespeare, William. Macbeth. Amway Japan
Amway Japan Limited Executive Summary In 1996 Amway Japan Limited (AJL) was the leader in direct selling market, and the most successful company within the entire Amway group. In the first half ofà 1997, AJL experienced a net sales decline of 11. 6% and net income to 27. 6% from the first half of the previous year. The Japanese economy and declining value ofà the Yen relative to the U. S. Dollar has decreased AJLââ¬â¢s sales volume and profit margin. The Japanese government recently passed laws that confused AJLââ¬â¢s distributors and discouraged potential consumers from buying certain product lines. Furthermore, AJL suffers from a negative public image with over 70% of their customer base having either a neutral or negative opinion of the company. In order to rebuild growth in the second half of 1997 and achieve AJLââ¬â¢s long-term sales goal of ? 300 billion by FY2000, the following strategies must be implemented. AJL must strengthen the overall Amway brand image in Japan by promoting high quality products with a competitively fair price. In addition, AJL needs to target their public-relations campaigns to specific groups by promoting individual products and product lines to build upon their brand equity. AJL will undertake a focused extensive distributor training program which emphasizes distributor ethics, techniques on building correspondent down-line relations, and a greater understanding of Japanââ¬â¢s door-to-door sales laws and regulations. AJL will improveà the internal marketing strategy by extending target-marketing initiatives toward specific demographic distributor groups to add upon their success with the Artistry cosmetic brands. AJL will successfully capture their momentum to reach their target revenue goals by implementing the solutions offered above.

Using cellphones while driving Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Using cellphones while driving - Essay Example One of the main disadvantages is that they create a great risk of motor vehicle collision. This happens in that the driver losses concentration on the road and focuses attention on listening to the phone call. Vehicle accidents cause minor, serious, crippling, and even fatal accidents. They result in property damage, which are expensive to repair. Moreover, health care costs after the accidents can be a huge expense to the victim (McHale 17-24). In addition, people who drive while using cell phones drive erratically. This puts other peopleââ¬â¢s lives at a great risk. It happens in that the driver may fail, at the required time, to use proper signals, miss road signs, change lanes abruptly and they usually respond slowly to hazards. The pattern from such erratic drivers can be dangerous to road users. It includes other drivers, pedestrians and other equipment on the roadside (Trapp 14-22). Furthermore, motorist involved in a stressful or emotional cell phone conversation may mostly show aggressive behavior as they drive. An example is road rage. Moreover, drivers who chat on cell phones are slow to brake, and took longer to increase the pace after they braked. In addition, they do not keep their mind focused on road signs such as billboards, or pedestrians (Guffey & Loewy 7-11). The use of cellular phones while driving may include a different variety of maneuvers. This involves reaching for a phone to initiate or receive a call, holding a phone, dialing or even sending text messages (Karen et al 3-7). The use of hands free phones consumes mental energy while driving. The numerous chores that follow with using a cellular phone necessitate dissimilar quantity of time, harmonization, and mental energy that leads to hypothetically different problems of driving task and results to collusions (Trapp 25). However, there are few advantages of using cell phones while driving. It is argued that use of
The Effect of Social Media on the Lives of People Essay
The Effect of Social Media on the Lives of People - Essay Example Qualitative interviews have been defined and categorized in many ways. The three most common types of such interviews are structured, semi-structured and unstructured interviews (Merriam, 2009). Structured interviews more often result in penetrating quantitative data and so the focus of this study would be on either semi-structured or unstructured interview. Unstructured interviews are concerned with collecting observational data leaving semi-structured interviews as the only reliable source for qualitative research. Semresulttured interviews are focused around already constructed open-ended questions (Tracy, 2013). More questions could follow relating o the previous one, and the whole perspective could be brought into light. Semi structured interview would suit the type of research that is being conducted in this study. As the topic is ââ¬ËThe effect of social media on the lives of people,ââ¬â¢ it would always be a better idea to gain a deep insight into how people have changed the way they communicate and live in the present generation. Semi structured interview would give the interviewee a chance to know just the right and detailed response instead of just a yes or no for an answer. It would help to know the ââ¬Ëwhy this and why thatââ¬â¢ factor in all the aspects relating to social media (Tracy, 2013). The interviewee selected must be a student who finds ample time to surf over the Internet. He must be a socially accepted and friendly person who spends 3 hours or more over social media websites like Facebook and Twitter. Only a person who spends more time on social media website would be familiar with its usage and would be able to explain how it is changing his life and the lives of people around him.

Quality of life for Women with bleeding disorders Essay
Quality of life for Women with bleeding disorders - Essay Example However, health care physicians play a significant role in detecting signs and symptoms of vWD and in the ensuring that proper management is given to patients suffering from the disease (Lillicrap and James 2009). Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) is named after Dr. Erik von Willebrand (1870-1949) who first described the condition in 1926. He became famous for his description of bleeding among inhabitants of the island of Foglo in the Aaland archipelago in the Baltic Sea. In 1925, he examined a 5-year old patient whose four siblings died of bleeding disorders. In his report, he presented this as an unidentified type of hemophilia. He initially called the disorder ââ¬Å"pseudohemophiliaâ⬠because of lengthened bleeding time. During the course of his study, he noted that platelets were involved so he renamed it ââ¬Å"constitutional thrombopathyâ⬠(Owens 2007). The ability of blood to clot is usually affected by vWD and can cause excessive bleeding. In rare cases, such bleeding m ay harm the internal organs or may even be fatal. VWD manifests in a deficiency in protein in the blood which is called von Willebrand factor (vWF) found in the linings of the blood vessels. Bleeding occurs when blood vessels are injured. Blood cells called platelets cluster together to block the hole in the blood vessel and control the bleeding. vWF serves as adhesion to help the platelets bond together to form a blood clot. Another vital protein that helps the blood clot is factor VIII (FVIII) found in vWF. FVIII is normally inactive in hemophilia which is another clotting disorder. In comparison with hemophilia, vWD more common and less serious among inherited bleeding disorders. It affects 1 out of 100 to 1000 people. Unlike hemophilia which mostly affects males, vWD has effects in both males and females (NHLBI 2008). vWD Disease Forms or Types Just like in many health conditions, vWD is classified into different forms. Type 1 is the most prevalent and is the mildest form, where in vWF in the blood is decreased. The symptoms manifested are mild and may not even be detected. However, use of aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can aggravate the condition. People with Type 1 (partial quantitative deficiency), vWD do not have spontaneous bleeding but may bleed considerably with trauma, medical and dental procedures. In Type 2 (qualitative deficiency) vWD, there is an abnormality in vWF. This type is further subdivided into Type 2A and Type 2B. In Type 2A, the multimer which are the building blocks in VWF are smaller than the normal size and rupture easily. In Type 2B, vWF glues to the platelets too well resulting to the clustering of the platelets which can cause reduced platelet number. There are 2 more subtypes (2M and 2N) but these are much rarer. In Type 3 (total deficiency) vWD, there is severe bleeding with vWF and FVIII in the blood at very low levels. Pseudo or platelet type of vWD is comparable to Type 2B but in this case, t here is a deficiency in the platelets instead of vWF (Griffin 2010). Prevalence of vWD VWD is prevalent worldwide and can also manifest in animal classes including canine and hogs. Its occurrence in people differs depending on the method applied to identify medical findings. It has been reported in two extensive epidemiologic researches that symptoms and signs of vWd were evident in up to 1% of children and infant population (Werner, Broxson, Tucker, Giroux, Schults, and Abshire 1993). Type 3 vWD
